The owners, David & Jeannette Pelly, bought Sandford and Down dive shopin Plymouth when it became available in April 2000. The shop itself has been a centre for diving since 1964.

Previously David worked in the shop as an equipment engineer, he has over 20 years of offshore and recreational diving experience. Our dive shop includes a diver training school S&D TRAINING, run by David and Scott, offering a wide range of dive courses from BSAC & PADI.

Our dive courses include:

BSAC

Learning to scuba dive opens up an exhilarating world of underwater adventure and can be a life-changing experience. If you’re keen to learn to dive, the BSAC’s Ocean Diver course is the place to start. This entry-level open water diver qualification will equip you with the core skills to dive to a maximum of 20 metres in open water, in the UK and abroad.

The BSAC Ocean Diver course is open to anyone from the age of 12.
You’ll just need to demonstrate that you can comfortably swim 200m in a pool, and the only kit you’ll need is a swimsuit and towel.

Your open water diver certification will be recognised worldwide. That means you will be qualified to use breathing gas mixtures of up to 36 per cent Nitrox to increase your safety on dives. Many ‘learn to dive’ courses don’t teach Nitrox or rescue skills, but at BSAC we believe they are important skills to start learning from the start of your scuba journey.

PADI

If you’ve always wanted to take scuba diving lessons, experience unparalleled adventure and see the world beneath the waves, this is where it starts. Get your scuba diving certification with the PADI® Open Water Diver course – the world’s most popular and widely recognized scuba course. Millions of people have learned to scuba dive and gone on to discover the wonders of the aquatic world through this course. To enrol in a PADI Open Water Diver course (or Junior Open Water Diver course), you must be 10 years old or older. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with scuba diving is required.

You can start your learning now with PADI’s home-study materials – Open Water Diver eLearning.
